The United Nations General Assembly approved a resolution asking for an immediate, long-lasting ceasefire between Israeli forces and Hamas in Gaza. The proposal, led by Jordan, got 120 votes in support, 14 against, and 45 countries chose not to vote, including Iceland, India, Panama, Lithuania, and Greece. The resolution was accepted during the UN General Assembly’s special meeting on the Israel-Palestine crisis. Speaking at the UN General Assembly, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Yojna Patel, emphasized that India doesn’t tolerate terrorism. She stressed the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue rather than violence. Patel condemned the recent terror attacks in Israel on October 7 and called for the immediate and unconditional release of hostages. She highlighted that terrorism affects everyone and urged for a united stand against it. Patel also expressed concern about the casualties in the Gaza conflict, particularly among civilians, especially women and children We appreciate the global community’s attempts to reduce tension and provide aid to the people in Gaza. India has also played a part in these endeavors. The worsening security situation and the tragic loss of civilian lives in the conflict deeply trouble us. India has consistently advocated for a peaceful, negotiated two-state resolution for the Israel-Palestine matter, leading to the creation of an independent, secure, and viable Palestinian state living alongside Israel in peace.”
