In Maharashtra, the Maratha community has been actively advocating for reservations in government jobs and educational institutions, seeking inclusion under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. Simultaneously, the Dhangar (shepherd) community has been pressing for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status recognition. These demands have led to several incidents of violence in various parts of the state in recent days, where Maratha quota supporters have resorted to acts of vandalism targeting the residences and offices of certain politicians.

Jarange, currently undertaking an indefinite fast in Antarwali Sarati village, Jalna district, asserted on Tuesday that the Maratha community firmly rejects any form of ‘incomplete reservation’. He further urged the Maharashtra government to convene a special session of the state legislature to address this critical issue.

Notably, activist Manoj Jarange initiated an indefinite fast on October 25 at his home in Antarwali Sarati village, located in Jalna district. His hunger strike is a symbol of his unwavering commitment to the cause of securing reservations for the Maratha community.”
