“Bombay High Court Revises Diwali Crackers’ Bursting Time to 10 pm, Citing Supreme Court Precedent; AQI at 89, Debris Transportation Ban Continues”

In a recent development, the High Court bench led by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Girish S Kulkarni revises the Diwali crackers’ bursting time in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to 10 pm, aligning with the Supreme Court’s precedent in the Arjun Gopal v Union of India case. The previous restriction from 7 pm to 10 pm has been extended in response to this legal consideration. Additionally, the court upholds a ban on the transportation of construction debris until November 19.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s air quality assessment reveals an AQI of 89, categorized as ‘Good.’ Among the 21 monitoring stations, 13 report double-digit AQI readings, while eight stations register readings in the moderate category. Notable AQI figures include Kurla at 61, BKC at 63, Bhandup at 64, Chembur at 150, Kandivli at 113, and Worli at 102.

In a separate legal development, the Bombay High Court Friday quashes an FIR and criminal proceedings against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray. The accusations pertained to alleged violations of the election code of conduct, specifically overstaying in the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) area ahead of the civic elections in 2010.
